Missing From: Texas

Matthew Wilson is white, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 135 pounds and has red hair, a full beard, green eyes and wears glasses
HOUSTON -- A Rice University student has been reported missing. University police said junior Matthew J. Wilson, 20, was last seen at his off-campus apartment at about noon Saturday.

"We found out from a student who Matthew was supposed to have picked up on Saturday evening and take to the airport that he never showed up" police Chief Bill Taylor said. "So we now have information that he had some things planned later from what we originally knew."

Wilson did not turn in any of his work for finals and his backpack is missing, officials said. Wilson's cellular phone was found inside his apartment, police said. "It's the end of the school year," Taylor said. "He's a very serious student. He doesn't participate in high-risk behaviors. It was really out of place. This is a gentleman who takes his school work very, very serious."

Wilson was not known to drink or party. "This is a very stable individual who just all of a sudden hasn't shown up," Taylor said. "It's a major concern. It's very out of character."

Investigators said Wilson's car is also missing. It is a silver Dodge Neon with Oklahoma license plate 863 MCZ. Wilson's roommate said Wilson hardly used the car. He only drove it to go to a nearby Fiesta grocery store or Target on South Main Street. Click here for more info>>

Anyone with information about Wilson is asked to call Rice police at 713-348-6000

Missing From: TROIS-RIVIERES, QUEBEC; Canada

CEDRIKA PROVENCHER

POSSIBLE SUSPECT VEHICLE
Nearly five months after a young Quebec girl went missing in Trois-Rivieres, provincial police say they are focusing their attention on five possible suspects who may have been in the area at the time.

Cedrika Provencher, whose 10th birthday was celebrated in her absence, was last seen on July 31 after telling people she was helping a man look for a lost dog near her home about 110 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

After a long process of elimination of suspects police investigators are focusing on "five individuals who could have been or were present in the area where Cedrika disappeared," according to Marc Butz of the Quebec provincial police.

According to media reports, some of the suspects have a history of sexual deviance or are attracted to small children. Police have also been looking for a French-speaking man between the ages of 30 and 40 with light brown hair and a medium build.

He was seen driving a four-door, red Toyota Acura built between 2002 and 2004. Police say it may have a beige interior and chrome door handles. Click here for more info>>

Missing From: BONANZA, Oregon
Missing: Dec 5, 1998

Top and Center: Engebretson, circa 1998
Bottom: Age-progression to 13 (circa 2003)
Endangered Missing
DERRICK ENGEBRETSON
DOB: Jul 5, 1990
Age Now: 16
Sex: Male
Race: White
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Hazel
Height: 4'6"
Weight: 85 lbs
Engebretson was looking for a Christmas tree in the Rocky Point area of Winema National Forest in Klamath County, Oregon on December 5, 1998. He wandered away from his father and grandfather during the day and apparently became lost. Engebretson has never been seen again.
Extensive air and ground searches yielded few clues as to Engebretson's whereabouts. A blizzard hit the area the evening he was reported missing and obliterated any tracks that might have been there; the weather also hampered search efforts.

Volunteers discovered a candy wrapper and a Bonanza School bookmark near Rocky Point several days after Engebretson disappeared. Blood of an unknown origin was also located at the scene. It is not known if the materials were connected to Engebretson's case, although he was enrolled at the school in 1998. Also found on the mountain were shoestrings, a tag torn off a t-shirt, and eyeglasses. It is not thought that these particular items are connected to Engebretson. A crude shelter made of fir boughs under several fallen logs are located on the mountain, but tracker dogs at the site did not seem to detect Engebretson's scent. In the days following his disappearance the temperature dipped below zero and there was a great deal of snow and wind; police are of the opinion that Engebretson could not have survived long on the mountain.

Authorities investigated Engebretson's case as a possible abduction shortly after he disappeared. An unidentified adult male was driving a black Honda in the Rocky Point area on December 5. A photo of a vehicle similar to the man's car is posted below this case summary. The individual reportedly asked for directions while in the forest. A witness allegedly saw an unidentified individual struggling with a young boy near the area later in the day. Investigators do not know if the incident is related to Engebretson's case. Authorities also speculated that he succumbed to the elements in the forest. Engebretson's father and grandfather have both taken polygraphs and are not considered suspects.

In 1999, police discovered graffiti scrawled on the wall of a public restroom that they thought might have a connection to Engebretson's disappearance. They never released the wording of the graffiti, but a portion of the wall was removed and sent to a state laboratory for analysis. Investigators eventually concluded that the writing was a cruel joke.

Investigators in Salem, Oregon announced that they identified a 'person of interst' in Engebretson's case in November 2002. The individual's name was not disclosed at the time of the announcement. Engebretson's mother believes that her son was abducted in December 1998, and she has criticized law enforcement for not acting quickly enough to find him. The Engebretson family has filed a lawsuit against the Klamath County Search Team for not finding the child. Most authorities believe Engebretson died of exposure on the mountain.

Engebretson was last seen wearing a blue snowmobile suit, possibly a jacket, a hat, felt-lined boots, and gloves with a Goosebumps logo. He carried a small hatchet. His father says he is accustomed to mountain terrain and routinely walked distances up to twenty miles through the southern Oregon countryside. Engebretson enjoyed reading R. L. Stine's Goosebumps books series at the time of his disappearance. His case is unsolved.

A man convicted of raping and slashing the throat of a 10-year-old boy is the prime suspect in the disappearance of another young boy nearly six years ago during a family Christmas tree hunt along Upper Klamath Lake, according to a newspaper report.

The Oregonian said in its Saturday editions that investigators have linked Frank J.Milligan to the disappearance of 8-year-old Derrick Engebretson on Dec. 5, 1998.

The Bonanza third-grader was searching for a Christmas tree with his father and grandfather when he wandered away in the snowy mountains above the lake near Klamath Falls. His disappearance led to a massive search with dogs, snowmobiles and hundreds of volunteers.

Derrick was never found and was presumed to have frozen to death in a snowstorm. But law enforcement officials now say they believe Derrick found his way to the roadside, where he was picked up by Milligan.

"He is a suspect," said Oregon State Police Detective Ken Pecyna.

The Oregonian said other high-ranking law enforcement officials confirmed that Milligan is the lead suspect.

In July 2001, Milligan pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, sodomy and sexual abuse after he lured a 10-year-old boy into his car at a Dallas park in 2000 by offering the child $100 to mow his lawn.

Milligan raped and strangled the boy, slashed his throat and left him for dead. The child survived. At the time of the attack, Milligan was out on bail after being charged with the sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy in Seaside.

Milligan surfaced as a potential suspect in the Derrick Engebretson disappearance after a fellow inmate claimed that Milligan had bragged about abducting and killing the boy, sources close to the case told The Oregonian.

When confronted, Milligan, who had been sentenced to 36 years in prison for the Dallas and Seaside crimes, confessed to killing Derrick and agreed to lead detectives to the place where he claimed to have buried the boy's body, the newspaper said, citing law enforcement sources.

But nothing was found, and Milligan later recanted the confession, according to police and Engebretson's family.

"He took them to the spot where he said he had buried the body, then he didn't do much to help them find it," said Lori Engebretson, Derrick's mother. "He said, 'Well, I guess I don't know where it's at. It was night, dark, and I was trying to hurry.'"

Based on evidence found at the scene, family members believe Derrick was making a snow angel near the road and was abducted by someone who happened to be driving by. "We think it was a crime of opportunity," Lori Engebretson said.

One witness reported seeing a man struggle with a boy near the road but didn't stop because he assumed that they were father and son, she said.

Police had never publicly identified Milligan as a the suspect. But in 2002, they announced they were investigating a tip that Derrick might have been abducted by a man driving a black Honda sedan.

At the time, police also released a photo of a black Honda parked in front of a white ranch-style house. The Oregonian, however, obtained an original copy of that photo that includes Milligan — meaning law enforcement officials had used a computer program to erase him from the photo released to aid the search.

The newspaper learned of Milligan's alleged involvement in the Derrick Engebretson case while researching a story about child sex abuse on the children's ward of the Oregon State Hospital in Salem. Milligan, a longtime state worker, was a psychiatric aide on the children's ward from 1994 to 1997.
